Volunteers

Like the water? Like to paddle? Want to get involved in your community?

Join us!

As an all-volunteer group, we offer free kayaking from June through September. KSI needs both experienced kayakers as well as newcomers to join our corps of volunteers.

There is no minimum commitment. You can come down and help us out when you can. We can always use extra hands willing to pitch in for a couple of hours at the walk-ups and guided tours- and, of course, we would love to have you as a regular!

Running the program at Conference House Park and the Stapleton Waterfront includes getting kayaks ready, checking equipment, signing visitors up, giving them quick safety and kayaking tips, handing out and checking life jackets, helping people into boats, in-water guest monitoring, and organizing beach clean-ups. It’s easy — and the smiles on our guests faces when they get in the water are immediate payback.

Volunteering gets YOU out on the water, too — providing opportunities to practice kayaking skills, and have a lot of fun! And we take trips together on a regular basis throughout the summer – just one of the benefits of Kayak Staten Island.

If you want to help-out, just come down on a scheduled outing and introduce yourself to the volunteers who are working the beach and, they will show you the ropes. There is no experience necessary, and no minimum commitment!
